December 31, 2013 – Dotcom-Monitor has been tracking a Bluehost outage, first detected Tuesday afternoon at approximately 12:30pm CST. Dotcom-Monitor’s worldwide network has detected a consistent outage from all 20 global monitoring locations.
In addition to client website outages, Bluehost’s own website (www.bluehost.com) was down as well.
At 12:41pm, Bluehost responded via their help.bluehost.com @bluehostsupport Twitter account.
FYI we’re experiencing an temporary issue with our data center that’s affecting some customers. Stay tuned for updates.
It was not until 12:53pm that Bluehost publicly acknowledged the outage via their main Twitter handle, @bluehost (nearly 30-minutes after Dotcom-Monitor saw initial Bluehost outages).
Bluehost phone systems were also offline (returning a busy signal), furthering customer frustration as clients were not able to reach support via phone, email, or live chat.
In addition to websites going down, email servers and other hosted web applications were also affected. These issues were experienced by Bluehost’s parent company, Endurance International Group, which also owns HostGator, iPage, FatCow, Domain.com, iPower, and A Small Orange. Widespread outages primarily impacted HostGator and HostMonster, in addition to Bluehost.
Dotcom-Monitor has tracked several Bluehost outages in the past, including a major outage back in August of this year. See the story here: Major Webhost Outage | Bluehost, HostGator and HostMonster Go Down
